ComfyUI announced the Comfy H3 Sync Sound Community Challenge on August 19, 2026. Submissions open August 20 and close September 1, with four prizes topping out at an RTX 5090 and a winners livestream on September 2.
What Happened
The challenge asks for a short piece where sound and motion are inseparable. The constraint is specific: audio has to be generated directly from the H3 video model inside ComfyUI, in the same pass as the video, rather than scored afterwards in an editor.
There are four ways to win. The Grand Prize for best overall is an RTX 5090-O32G-G. Best Technical or Workflow, Best Creative, and a Built with MCP bonus each take an RTX 5060 Ti.
Entries go through a Typeform submission portal and must include both the final video and the ComfyUI workflow .json file. There is also a Reddit megathread for posting work in progress.
Judging covers audio synchronisation realism, creative originality, technical novelty, workflow quality, community value, and MCP effectiveness. A panel reviews submissions with community input during the September 2 livestream.
Why It Matters for Creators
Requiring the workflow .json alongside the video is the detail that makes this worth your time even if you do not win. Every entry becomes a readable, runnable workflow, which means the challenge produces a public library of native audio-video techniques rather than a gallery of clips you cannot reverse engineer.
Synchronised generation is also a genuinely unsolved craft problem. Generating video and generating audio are both mature. Generating them together so that a footstep lands on the frame where the foot lands is the part that still separates convincing work from obviously assembled work. A two week deadline and a public workflow requirement is an efficient way to find out what actually works.
The MCP bonus category is the other signal. It arrives one day after Comfy Org open sourced Comfy MCP on Local, and it is a direct nudge to try agent-driven workflow building on a real deliverable.
Key Details

What to Do Next
Pick a subject with an obvious sync anchor before you touch a node graph. Footsteps, a door closing, a ball bouncing, a hand striking a surface. Percussive, visible events are far easier to judge as locked or not locked than ambient sound, and judges are scoring synchronisation realism directly.
Keep the piece short. Sync errors compound over time, and a tight fifteen seconds that holds is stronger than a minute that drifts.
Build the workflow to be read. Workflow quality is a scored criterion and one prize is explicitly for it, so name your nodes, remove dead branches, and keep the graph legible before you export the .json.
