Anthropic is preparing a significant expansion of Claude's mobile voice mode, with app teardown data revealing 18 new languages coming to the feature including German, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, and Ukrainian. The findings were published today by TestingCatalog, which analyzed pre-release builds of the Claude iOS and Android apps.

What Happened

Right now, Claude voice mode supports English only, with five voice personas available on mobile. The upcoming update surfaces several changes beyond language count: a push-to-talk interface replaces the current turn-based model, users will be able to switch languages mid-conversation without starting over, and a redesigned UI adds a glow animation around the voice orb. Most new languages will ship with one to two voice options at launch.

Anthropic has not made an official announcement, and the language roster may still change before public release. No rollout timeline has been confirmed.

Why It Matters for Creators

Claude has lagged behind ChatGPT and Gemini on voice for some time. Both competitors have offered multilingual voice for months. This update closes that gap. For creators working across languages, whether recording localized voiceovers, building multilingual content, or collaborating with international clients, native-language voice interaction with an AI removes a real daily friction point.

The implementation runs on text-to-speech infrastructure rather than a native speech-to-speech model. Anthropic uses ElevenLabs for audio synthesis in its voice layer, and the output carries TTS cadence rather than conversational speech. That is a real limitation at this stage, but it matches what ChatGPT and Gemini ship as well.
