Sync, the Y Combinator-backed lipsync startup founded in 2023, launched Sync-3 on April 6. The new model processes entire shots at once instead of in chunks, producing 4K native output with built-in obstruction detection and support for extreme face angles. Pricing starts at $0.107 per second at 25 fps.
What Happened
Sync-3 replaces the chunk-based architecture used in earlier models like Lipsync-2-Pro with what the company calls full-shot processing. Rather than splitting a video into small independent segments, the model analyzes the complete shot, which eliminates stitching artifacts and maintains long-range consistency across the frame.
The model handles scenarios that previously required manual cleanup: faces partially blocked by hands or microphones, profile and over-the-shoulder shots, and rapid dialogue sequences. It also introduces silent lip opening, where the model can animate a closed mouth to match new speech.
Why It Matters
AI lipsync sits at the intersection of dubbing, localization, and AI-generated video. As studios and creators produce content for global audiences, matching lip movements to translated audio has been one of the most labor-intensive steps in post-production. Sync-3 targets this bottleneck directly with 4K ProRes output that is production-ready without additional upscaling.
The model supports six languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, French, German, and Korean. This covers a large portion of global media markets, though gaps remain in East Asian and Southeast Asian languages.
